The MJBurrows Briefing

Markets, tax, rates and the rule changes that actually move your money, in about three minutes. Free, and it stays free.

The MJBurrows Briefing is a UK money and markets email. It goes out at 8am every weekday, takes about three minutes, and it is free.

What is in one

Every issue runs to the same shape, so you always know where you are.

  • Lead — the story that actually mattered, and what it does to your money rather than what the headline said.
  • The Numbers — Bank Rate, CPI, the ten-year gilt and the FTSE 100, each with the date of the next decision or how far it sits from where it is supposed to be.
  • More News — two further stories, same treatment, shorter.
  • In plain English — one piece of City vocabulary, defined in a sentence you can use. Market capitalisation. Retail tranche. Cash alternative.
  • On the Diary — what is published next, at what time, and why it is worth knowing.
  • The Toolbox — one calculator from the site, chosen to fit what has just happened. Free, no sign-up, and it shows its workings.
  • The Close — what the day adds up to, and what to watch next.

Who writes it

I do. Matthew Burrows. Every edition, every figure, checked by me before it sends. Nothing is syndicated, nothing is rewritten from a press release, and nothing is generated. When a number in the Briefing is wrong, it is my name on it.

What it is not

It is not financial advice, and I am not a financial adviser. There are no tips, no positions, and nothing to buy. The Briefing tells you what happened and what it means. What you do about it is yours.

Where to begin

Read the most recent issue — every one is under Posts, above. If it reads well, the sign-up is one field, at the top of this page.
